{"id":1148,"date":"2021-04-13T12:38:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T02:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blueknobgallery.com\/gallery\/?p=1148"},"modified":"2025-03-15T16:51:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-15T05:51:56","slug":"domesticated-main-gallery-with-wood-metal-by-jennifer-unwin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueknobgallery.com\/gallery\/domesticated-main-gallery-with-wood-metal-by-jennifer-unwin\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201dDomesticated\u201d Main Gallery with \u201cWood &amp; Metal\u201d by Jennifer Unwin in The Solo Space"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Domesticated&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>is the new member\u2019s exhibition at Blue Knob Hall Gallery with&nbsp;<em>Wood &amp; Metal<\/em>&nbsp;by Jennifer Unwin in The Solo Space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing says \u2018domesticated\u2019 like \u2018tea for two\u2019 and a few chickens in the back yard. \u2018Tea for Two\u2019 by Cathryn Binstead is two ceramic teapots that were made as part of an assignment when completing a ceramic certificate at Randwick Tafe in the early 90&#8217;s and Amanda Doran\u2019s installation piece \u2018I Just Want my Children to be Happy\u2019 is a reflection of how much we want to take care of those around us, be they domesticated or wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The origins of the word \u2018domesticate\u2019 comes from Latin&nbsp;<em>domesticus<\/em>&nbsp;\u2018belonging to the house\u2019. It can relate to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/household#h1\">household<\/a>&nbsp;or family, domestic chores, or anything that is taken from a wild or natural state to live in close association with, and to the benefit of humans. It can cover everything from human\/animal domesticity, to plants that have been adapted over time by selective breeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a huge range for interpretation (including the \u2018undomesticated\u2019) and the artists exhibiting have had fun with this theme, interpreting it in whatever medium or form they wished.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"280\" height=\"230\" data-id=\"1151\" src=\"https:\/\/blueknobgallery.com\/gallery\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0061.jpeg\" alt=\"I Just Want My Kids To Be Happy by Amanda Doran\" class=\"wp-image-1151\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8216;I Just Want My Kids To Be Happy&#8217;<br>by Amanda Doran<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Wood &amp; Metal<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;by Jennifer Unwin is in The Solo Space and will run concurrently with the member\u2019s exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jennifer Unwin is an emerging visual artist and printmaker living in the beautiful Tweed Valley near the art deco town of Murwillumbah NSW.
